How to use the new technology to log in to Google accounts without passwords?

Google introduced a technology called Passkey in early May 2023 to eliminate the need for passwords.

Passkey is a security mechanism that will grant a user access to Google Accounts only after a PIN code or biometric verification.

In this way, passwords will not be required to log in to Google accounts.

It can be considered secure if the passkey is stored only on your device, but how to use it, and on which devices can it be used? On which devices can it be used?
This technology can be used on all laptops or desktop computers running Windows 10 or macOS Ventura.

Also, the computer must be running Chrome 109, Safari 16, or Edge 109 version.

To create a passkey on a mobile phone or tablet, devices running iOS 16 (if an Apple device) or Android 9 or later operating systems are required.

It will also be necessary to enable the screen lock on the mobile or tablet.

If you have an existing Google Workspace account you will not be able to create a passkey for that account, but it is possible to use a passkey on a personal Google Account.

So how do you create a password?
For this first visit g.co/passkeys website.

If you use an Android device, your passkey will be generated automatically and you have to go to this website and click on the use passkeys option.

After that, a QR code will appear, scan it with the phone camera and that's it.

If you are using an iPhone or the device is not listed on the website, click the Create a Passkey button at the bottom of the page.

What if the device is lost?

You can delete any device from the list of passkeys.

For this, you have to go to your Google account and go to the security option on the left side and scroll down to How you sign in to Google, and select Passkeys.

There should be an X written next to devices with passkeys, by clicking on it you can delete the passkey in that device.

If Google has automatically created a passkey, it cannot be deleted, in which case you have to go to Security and select the Manage all devices option.

Then select the phone or device you want to sign out from and then click Sign Out.
